How the Story begins

A fire glows far away in the dark night. This is a true story, and it comes from the Qur’an. It is the story of the Prophet Musa, peace be upon him, and a light he saw on the side of a mountain. It was the day Allah spoke to Musa, and chose him to be His messenger. Let’s find out what happened.

Musa had been living in a land called Madyan for many years. He had married there, and he looked after sheep. When he had finished the years of work he had promised, he set off on a journey with his family, travelling across the wide, quiet land.

The scholars explain that it was a cold, dark night, and the way was hard to find. Then, far away, near a mountain, Musa saw a fire. Its light glowed in the darkness. Musa said to his family: Stay here. I can see a fire. Perhaps I can bring you some news from there, or a burning stick, so that you can warm yourselves. Or perhaps I will find someone there to guide us.
