How the Story begins
Every building has a beginning, and so does the Ka’bah. This is a true story. It comes from the Qur’an, and from the words of our Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him. In the city of Makkah there is a House, a simple building shaped like a cube. It is called the Ka’bah. Every day, Muslims all over the world turn towards it when they pray. Tonight we will find out who built it. Let’s begin.
Long ago, the Prophet Ibrahim, peace be upon him, brought Hajar and their baby son, Ismail, to the valley of Makkah. Allah looked after them, and gave them the water of Zamzam. People came and settled near the water. And little Ismail grew up among them, into a strong young man. He learned Arabic from them, and they loved him.
One day, Ibrahim came back to Makkah. He found Ismail near Zamzam, sitting in the shade of a tree, sharpening his arrows. When Ismail saw his father, he stood up and went to him. And they greeted each other the way a loving father and son do, warmly and happily. How long had they been apart? The story does not say. But they were together again.
