Ibrahim Looks Up at the Sky
7 min · Ages 4–12 · Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham)
The Prophet Ibrahim, peace be upon him, looks up at the star, the moon and the sun, and sees that each one sets and is gone. He tells his people that only Allah, who made them all, never goes away.
Ibrahim did not win by shouting or by being unkind. He won by thinking clearly and speaking the truth about the star, the moon and the sun.

How the Story begins
On a clear night, the sky is full of stars. This is a true story, from the Qur’an. It is the story of the Prophet Ibrahim, peace be upon him. Ibrahim was one of Allah’s great messengers. The Qur’an tells us that Allah chose him and guided him, and that Allah took Ibrahim as a close friend. Tonight’s story is about the sky: the stars, the moon and the sun. Let’s look up together.
Long, long ago, Ibrahim lived among people who had forgotten Allah. His father and his people had idols, statues that they carved with their own hands, and they worshipped them. The scholars explain that they also thought the stars, the moon and the sun had special powers. Ibrahim knew this was not right. He said to his father, whose name was Azar: Do you take idols as gods? I can see that you and your people have clearly lost the way.
Allah had given Ibrahim a gift. The Qur’an tells us that Allah showed him the marvels of the heavens and the earth, so that his faith would be strong and certain. Ibrahim looked at the world with wise, thinking eyes. And he wanted to help his people think, too. So he used the sky itself, the biggest picture there is, to teach them.
