How the Story begins

Fire is hot. Everybody knows that. This is a true story, and it comes from the Qur’an. It is the story of the Prophet Ibrahim, peace be upon him, a messenger whom Allah loved very much. The Qur’an tells us that Allah took Ibrahim as a close friend. Tonight’s story is about a huge fire, and something so amazing happened in it that people still talk about it today. Let’s find out together.

Ibrahim lived among people who worshipped idols, statues that they carved with their own hands. Ibrahim told them, kindly and clearly, that statues cannot hear, cannot see, and cannot help anyone. Only Allah, who made the heavens and the earth, deserves to be worshipped. But the people would not listen. They said: This is what our fathers did, so this is what we will do.

So one day, when the people had gone out of the town, Ibrahim broke their idols into pieces, all except the biggest one. When they came back and asked him about it, he told them to ask the biggest statue. For a moment, they knew the truth. They even said it out loud: These statues cannot speak! But instead of turning to Allah, they turned against Ibrahim.
