The Moral · Forgiveness

Yusuf’s brothers had done wrong, but he said, “There is no blame on you today. May Allah forgive you.” Forgiving them helped bring the family together again.

How the Story begins

Have you ever waited a long time for good news? Ya’qub did, in this true story from the Qur’an. It is the last part of the story of the Prophet Yusuf, peace be upon him, and his father, the Prophet Ya’qub, peace be upon him. Do you remember? Yusuf’s younger brother had stayed behind in Egypt, and the brothers had come home without him. Let’s find out what happened next.

The brothers told their father everything. And Ya’qub said: No, you have made up a story. So patience is best, a beautiful patience. Perhaps Allah will bring them all back to me together. He is the All-Knowing, the All-Wise. Even now, Ya’qub did not give up hope. He believed Allah could bring his sons home, all of them.

Then Ya’qub turned away, and he said: Oh, how sad I am for Yusuf! He had missed Yusuf for so many years. He was so sad for so long that his eyes turned white, and he could no longer see. But the Qur’an tells us that he held his sadness inside. He did not shout, and he did not blame anyone out loud.
