How the Story begins
Egypt was far from home for young Yusuf. This is a true story, and it comes from the Qur’an. It is the next part of the story of the Prophet Yusuf, peace be upon him. Do you remember how Yusuf was taken out of the well, and brought to a grand house in Egypt? Yusuf grew up there, and Allah gave him wisdom and knowledge. But there were more tests still to come.
Some people in the city made a wrong plan against Yusuf. They wanted him to do something that was wrong, and Yusuf would not do it. He said: My Lord, prison is dearer to me than what they ask me to do. And so, even though Yusuf had done nothing wrong at all, they decided to put him in prison for a while.
A prison is a place where people are locked away, and cannot go home. It must have been hard and lonely for Yusuf. But Yusuf knew that Allah could see him, even there. He had chosen to obey Allah, and he was not sorry. Being good does not always make life easy straight away. But Allah never forgets the good that we do.
