How the Story begins

A boy once dreamed of eleven stars, the sun and the moon. This true story is from the Qur’an. In fact, just before this story begins, Allah tells us that He tells us the best of stories. It is the story of the Prophet Yusuf, peace be upon him. It is a long story, full of surprises, so we will tell it a little at a time. Tonight is the very beginning. Let’s find out together.

Yusuf was a boy who lived with his father and his brothers. His father was the Prophet Ya’qub, peace be upon him. Ya’qub’s father was the Prophet Ishaq, and Ishaq’s father was the Prophet Ibrahim. Our Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, called Yusuf the noble son of a noble son of a noble son of a noble man. What a family of prophets!

One morning, Yusuf came to his father with something wonderful to tell. He said: O my father, I saw eleven stars, and the sun, and the moon. I saw them all bowing down to me. Can you imagine it? The bright stars, the golden sun and the silver moon, all bowing low. It was no ordinary dream. It was a true dream, a sign from Allah.
