How the Story begins
It is easy to forget to say thank you. This is a true story, and it comes from the Qur’an. There is a whole surah of the Qur’an called Saba. Saba was the name of a people, who lived in the south of Arabia, in the land we now call Yemen. Allah gave them a beautiful home, full of gardens. Let’s visit the garden land of Saba.
The Qur’an tells us that, in the place where they lived, there was a sign from Allah. There were two gardens, one on the right and one on the left. Imagine walking down a long valley, with green trees on both sides of you, as far as you can see. Fruit hanging from every branch. Shade to rest in. Birds singing.
Where did all the water come from, to keep the gardens so green? The Qur’an speaks of a dam. A dam is a great, strong wall that holds back water, like a giant bowl. The scholars explain that the people of Saba had a big dam between the mountains, which caught the rain and kept the water safe, so that the gardens could drink.
