How the Story begins
Your family is much bigger than you think. This is a true story, from the Qur’an. It is the story of the very first person, the Prophet Adam, peace be upon him. Adam is the father of every person in the whole world. Your mother and father, your grandparents, your friends, and you too: we are all the children of Adam. So this is a story about our very own family. Let’s begin.
Long, long ago, before there were any people at all, Allah spoke to the angels. He told them that He was going to place on the earth a new kind of creation, who would live there, one after another. The angels wondered about this. They asked whether this new creation might do harm on the earth, while they themselves praised Allah and declared His glory all the time.
Allah answered them: “I know what you do not know.” Allah knows everything, and He always has a wise plan, even when we cannot see it yet. Then Allah made Adam. The Qur’an tells us that Allah made him from clay, from the earth itself. Allah shaped him with care, and gave him life. And so the very first person stood up, ready to begin.
